The closing Eucharist was chaired by the archbishop, D. Fidel Herráez, accompanied by the bishop emeritus of Jaén, D. Ramón del Hoyo and eighteen priests, friends of the Association. Many others, due to different circumstances, could not attend.
A group of girls and boys from Santa María La Nueva and San José Artesano School enlivened the celebration with their voices and musical instruments.
Students, accompanied by their parents, teachers, former students, some coming from other cities, families and friends of the TA, joined the celebration to give thanks for all the fruits that the Association has given in this community throughout these 100 years. They gratefully reminded the people who have made it possible and, with the hope placed in the future, expressed their desire to continue generating life.
A year of celebratons
There have been several events organized for this commemoration throughout the year 2019.
On November 7, friends, teachers, and former students congregated in the auditorium of the Caja Círculo Foundation for a meeting on Education. Three speakers shared the theme "Educate with the head and heart in the present moment."
Carlos Esteban, professor at the University Centre of La Salle in Madrid, Manu Velasco, teacher at the TA School in León and an expert in social media, and Raquel Osorno, Coordinator of the Network of TA educational centres in Spain, showed the opportunities, challenges and hopes presented in Education today, demonstrating that Pedro Poveda's educational passion has, today more than ever, a contribution to make in social transformation.
At the end of May, and joining the city of Avila that also was celebrating its centenary, the two Castilian cities organized a pilgrimage to Santa María de Los Negrales to thank the life sown in these 100 years and continue looking forward to the future with hope.
In a cheerful, simple and friendly climate, about 100 people, including former students and students, collaborators, family, friends and members of the Association of Burgos and Ávila had the opportunity to pray in the crypt of Pedro Poveda and Josefa Segovia. They visited also the Espacio Alameda, making a journey through the history of the Academies and the beginnings of the TA.
The opening of the centenary was celebrated on April 4 with the conference “The Teresian Association in Burgos, a hundred years of shared history” presented by Encarnación González, historian, General Postulator of the TA, who run through the many years of presence of the Association in this city and the activities from the beginning in 1919, to the actions and challenges of the present moment.
