LEON, Spain (May, 2007). The educative Community of Santa Teresa School,
in Leon, celebrated, on the last 19 April, the VII Day of Solidarity under
the motto: “For a more just world: cooperate. All of us are necessary”.
The purpose of this experience, already traditional in the Center, was
to foster a critical and sharing attitude in facing the inequalities of
the world, to inspire values and behaviours of solidarity and to prepare
for an intercultural dialogue.
The educational activities of that day were focused on Peru and the socio-educative
projects promoted by the NGO InteRed in that country:
- Formal and not formal education Centers. Center “Casa Abierta”
– Pachacamac.
-Teachers’ training in Lima, Huancavelica, Junin, Parra and Chimbote.
- Elaboration of didactic materials for preventing discrimination, in
Pucalipa, Ica and Quispicanchi.
- Access of the girls to education in the Department of Puno.
- Formation for native youth: Ashaninka, Dictrict of Rio Tambo.
The students participated in the IV competition of school design Victoria
Díez and in other activities related to the different subject matters.
The street market with contributions from the elder T.A. members of the
“Residence Santa Teresa”, the snacks and the solidarity dinner
were a source of funds for the same cause
.
The attendants could also enjoy the exhibit “When women advance,
the world also does” and a lecture on “Perú
a path of solidarity” by Belén Andrade from the International
Cooperation Department of InteRed.
“Beyond the participation in this celebration and the specific projects
presented, we keep the true sense of solidarity”, said the school
teacher Javier Martínez.
Begoña Rojo, a student of the 2nd. year of high school, summarized
the experience of the day in these words: “We have met to share
our contributions to the projects as well as our personal experience in
facing a world that needs our collaboration in order to continue living
and towards which we all feel responsible”.
Once again, this day helped us to have a festive encounter in which we
could consider in depth the “Development Objectives of the Milennium”.
